Synthesis, Characterization, and Application of Magnetite Nanoparticles Coated with Hydrophobic Polyethyleneimine for Oil Spill Cleaning

Pollution with oil spills, a major contributor to water contamination, has remarkable effect on the economy, biodiversity, and environment. To protect marine species environment, efforts should be undertaken for developing efficient ways remove spills. The current work discusses spill removal using magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) functionalized hydrophobic polyethyleneimine (HPEA). In this respect, nonylphenol pentaethylenehexamine (NTEPA) triethylenetetramine (NDETA) were prepared by simple one-step method used as capping agents in synthesis of hydrophobically modified designated NDETA/Fe3O4 (magnetite core NDETA shell) NTEPA/Fe3O4 NTEPA shell). MNPs characterized FTIR, XRD, TEM, DLS, TGA, DSA determine their physical chemical properties. Additionally, applied collectors high efficiencies that reached 93% 90% NTEPA/Fe3O4, respectively, at low ratios.
